Our experimental visual studio MÁSKÉP has been operating for 10 years and is constantly evolving. Talent development and arts education play a prominent role at the Újpalota day care center in the 15. district of Budapest. Participants in the weekly visual arts workshop are people with moderate intellectual disabilities.
The main goal of the workshop is to encourage the spirit and motivate creativity. Every session is a miracle, where the stories told there come to life on paper. Some people draw inspiration from memories and stories, others from images of their imagination, and still others from interesting tasks or techniques. Some are created in a matter of moments, while others take hours or weeks of endless perseverance. It is important that the focus is on the process of self-expression, the act of creation, and the love of it, rather than the product itself. There are no mandatory tasks or expectations, so the processes evolve on their own.
